Emotional Realignment Therapy

The Applied Energy Flow Healing System has an affiliation with J.E. Honey, the creator of Emotional Realignment Therapy (ERT). Although ERT is separate to AEF, we are grateful and excited to have access to this special treatment because it far more effective than anything else we have come across.

What is Trauma

We are all too familiar with what happens when we eat too many calories - our bodies are not able to process them and it stores it in our bodies as fat. This storing is a natural and common function of the body and also happens when emotional experiences are too much to be processed. This “too much” may be because we are too young, the experience(s) is too severe or they are relentless. Like with stored fat that needs to be taken out of the body by converting it back into energy through exercise, these stored emotions also need to be released from the body. Another way to understand this is to remember a time when you ate something that made you sick, an egg for example. If someone mentions making you an omelette the next day, you may feel temporarily nauseous, hold your stomach and ask them to please stop talking about eggs! This is because your body has not yet processed this experience through completely. In this case it is likely it may only take a day or two to fade, but in the case of a car accident, military service, difficult divorce or sexual abuse the body may never be able to let go of this experience without support. And until it receives that support it will continue to react to that experience in the form of illness, emotional stress or unwanted thoughts and behaviors - regardless of how much the mind understands the situation.

Why We Think ERT is the Best

There are many things we respect about ERT.

The first is how it combines the best experiences of working with a qualified practitioner while giving the client absolute control over all aspects of the treatment. This fits in with the AEF knowledge that people know more about what they want and need than anyone else. But most of us know that doing massage on yourself is not as effective as a skilled body-worker working on you. ERT lets the person control the pace and content of their experience while still making use of the expertise of the practitioner.

Also, it is a stand-alone treatment. Meaning that the appointment is made open-ended, and takes as long as the client needs to go as far as they want in that session. When that session is over the changes created are permanent and will last. It may not get the person all the way over to the other end of the river, but it will take him or her firmly to the next stone, and they can stand on that stone as long as they want until they decide to move forward again. For most people that is measured in weeks and months because they want time to integrate and live with the changes that happened.

We are also very excited that no discussion of the past is required. This means the mind cannot become re-traumatized or engage in endless loops of worry or fear. For some people they may not be aware of all the incidents that are effecting them. With ERT, this does not matter.

How it Works

The ERT practitioner will ask to see you once before you embark on ERT together. This is to ensure that ERT is the right fit for you, develop a working relationship and lay a foundational energy boost to make the process easier and more effective for you.

During the ERT session you will be laying on a massage table, fully clothed. The practitioner will find the emotions and experiences that are in your body and move them to a place that will feel obvious, concrete and specific to you. You may feel them as a heaviness or pressure in your chest. You may also feel them as emotions, but these emotions will not overwhelm you, they will feel a little at a distance and be indicators to what you are clearing but without the story behind them.

The practitioner will then show you how to release them from your body with his or her guidance. There is no point explaining how that works here in words. It’s a little like learning to ride a bicycle - silly to discuss it until you are on the bike and feeling how it feels in your body. But the process is remarkably simple to do and just like riding a bicycle, your body will get the hang of it and feel comfortable with it.

As you are releasing these emotions and experiences you may feel sensations in your body that may or may not be familiar to you.

After you have done as much as feels right to you, the practitioner will complete the process. The entire session usually lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours, but as stated earlier this is open-ended and depends very much on the individual.

A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to make sure that everything is integrating as it should be. The changes that happen are at the body’s most core level and during this time you will feel the changes gradually enfolding and changing how you feel and behave.

These changes will be permanent. If you feel that you want to do more release with ERT you can decide to schedule another appointment whenever you feel is best, after the integration process is complete.
